You’ve already read a million reviews about KFC‘s Double Down. The Impulsive Buy spent their entire wrap-up last week on Double Down related reviews. My local KFC closed-up a few months ago and the closest one is by the evil Mall, so I try to avoid. I almost had Brit convinced to do some KFC drive thru on Friday night, but we reconsidered. On Sunday, Commish, Jessica, and I weren’t so lucky. We had an epic afternoon heading to the wonderful State Line for their Belgian beer sale (20% off!) and topped it off with an excellent visit to Charlie’s for double cheeseburgers. We also veered over to The Last Stand for hot dogs and Commish’s first taste of their hot sausage. Then, we made another poor choice: to go to KFC for a Double Down.
I’m going to call out this particular KFC at 1252 MacDade Blvd. in Glenolden, PA because it sucked. I decided to shoot some video on my iPhone because we were waiting so long in the drive thru. I’d embed the video, but it’s mostly just waiting banter that may or may not be entertaining to you. You can visit on You Tube and see Commish in action. It was an excruciating 3 or 4 minutes into the video before we could order on top of the three or four minutes prior. Our game plan was to get a Deep-fried Double Down and a Grilled Double Down. When we ordered, we were told that they were out of Grilled, but we could get an “Original” Double Down, since “fried” is not approved vernacular at KFC.
First off, this bad boy cost us $5.29 by itself. We took our bounty home and unveiled the rest for a quick video (vegetarian Mrs. Commish chides us for making this mistake):

You know you don’t need this, but you’ll still try one. The breading was a little too peppery, the chicken was spookily juicy, the thousand island-like Colonel’s Sauce was running everywhere, and the bacon was overdone. Oh yeah, and they served it in a cheap paper wrapper instead of a french fry cup like they have on the commercials.

The Second Dimension
Single Integral. Barely two-dimensional. Okay for an experiment, but not a serious menu item. Being out of grilled chicken is baffling and strange. We’re better off not knowing.

I’m not interested enough to watch the videos or read about all the crap that you’re clogging your arteries with these days, but I am impressed that you finally got rid of that crappy phone you had when I last saw you.
