Our good friends Will and Lauren are wrapping up a several month long stay in India. Recently, they were in Dehli waiting to pick up some friends from the airport and saw a Bennigan’s. They decided to go for a Water Buffalo Burger, their only burger option with India frowning upon cow consumption for the most part. It sounds painful, but I definitely would have been right there eating it with you if I was there.
Coffee making with an Aerobie Aeropress (yes, the same folks that make those weird frisbee things that you loved in the ’80s). [via Unclutterer] I’m not sure this is much easier than using a French Press, but it does take a little less time. Boiling the water seems like a hassle to me. I’ve been rocking the Bodum Santos Vacuum Brewer for a while and enjoy that method.
I’ve been reading posts on Barbecue Quest and Full Custom Gospel BBQ after a CNN article on fans of barbecue. Full Custom Gospel BBQ just posted information about the latest issue of Saveur magazine, The Texas Issue.
Candy Addict posts a review of banana flavored Tootsie Pops. Sounds intriguingly bad.
The Burger Beast visits a Guatemalan chicken chain called Pollo Campero that is opening locations in the US.
George Motz visits a second Top Notch Beefburger location in Chicago and loves it. We visited for one of our early posts based on his recommendations in Hamburger America.
Phoodie sets up a head-to-head competition between Tastycake and Hershey’s Brownies. We won’t spoil the results, but are enjoying these competition threads.
Adam Gollner posted to his facebook group that The Fruit Hunters is in the process of becoming a documentary. I hope it’s successful.
We’re back from a day long trip to NYC which featured stops at the Doughnut Plant, Shake Shack, Famous Joe’s Pizza, New York Hot Dog and Coffee (bulgogi dogs), Murray’s Cheese Shop, Spuyten Duyvil, Studio Square Beer Garden, Hallo Berlin, and Rutt’s Hut. There will be reviews forthcoming on a least a few of the stops.

The Aeropress is a really nice little gadget, and I’m pleased with the coffee it makes, with one caveat: It definitely only makes enough coffee for 1-2 people. Which is perfect when I just want to fill up my thermos to take to work, but is awkward if there are guests over and I want to make coffee for a group. It’s near-useless in that kind of situation. Otherwise, it takes a small amount of fuss to make a much better cup than what you get from a drip machine, so if you’re just looking for an affordable way to make coffee in small batches, I think the Aeropress is one of the strongest contenders (a French press being another).
