Crispy Country Chicken
When we visited Boston Market for lunch, we saw their new Crispy Country Chicken advertised. Brit and I took the plunge to try the entree version (there is also a sandwich version). The Crispy Country Chicken is breaded and then baked, rather than fried, which sets it apart from the more deadly traditional Texas favorite Country Fried Chicken. The chicken comes with a creamy country black pepper gravy.
The chicken was very moist white meat chicken. The breading was crispy in spite of being baked rather than being fried, but had the added benefit of not being greasy. The gravy is the make-or-break ingredient in this new dish. Unfortunately, the gravy falls short of taste perfection even with extra added black pepper. The consistency was good, creamy without being too pasty, but definitely the spice was lacking.
Definitely the strength of going to Boston Market is getting their delicious sides. I’m a big proponent of their Macaroni and Cheese and their Sweet Potato Casserole. The entree also comes with their signature cornbread which is just the right combination of cakiness with crisp edges and a little sweetness.
All in all, the new Crispy Country Chicken isn’t a bad entree, but the gravy falls a little flat. I think their standard rotisserie roasted chicken is a bit more flavorful and more worthy of your attention.

I worked at Boston Market (Boston Chicken back then) for a few years. The mac & cheese was all I would touch there, but I’ll spare you horror stories.
I once threatened a walk-out and my manager talked me down with 100 dollars cash and free Mac & Cheese for life, now if I only knew where he worked these days.

I think you need to tell us all of the deep dark secrets about the Boston Market, Adam. The world deserves to know. Like do the sides show up pre-made in plastic buckets or are they whipped up in the back room from scratch? How about the cornbread?

It’s mostly prepackaged Sysco food products, they come in vacuum sealed bags and all the sides are steamed. They used to make the mash potatoes from scratch, but no longer. They were still baking the cornbread fresh when I was there. They darker side of BM is with the chicken, turkey, and meatloaf. I was regularly made to prepare chicken way past its expiration date. I once threw up due to the smell of the rotten chicken.
