Jimmy's Hot Dogs

Jimmy's Hot Dogs

Before I went up to the Poconos for a weekend, I consulted Roadfood to see if there were any spots of interest. I was reminded of Jimmy’s Hot Dogs in Easton, PA. Brit and Van were also interested in Jimmy’s based on reading the Roadfood website. So on our way home, we all decided that we should stop in.

The Bench

The Bench

I’m used to seeing these famous long-standing institutions that are fairly unique-looking, like an out-of-place-looking old shack in a parking lot or a spot with oddly designed old-fashioned signs. I’m always thrown for a loop when the spot is just a normal, plain-looking shop in a strip mall, which is what Jimmy’s Hot Dogs is.

We walked in and took a look at the menu, which doesn’t even list hot dogs. Clearly this is a hot dog shop, though, and that’s all they were making as far as I could tell. We each ordered a hot dog and had to take them to go, there is no spot in Jimmy’s for sitting down and eating. We plopped down on a nearby bench and opened up the sack of hot dogs.

We had ordered them with everything on them, and that meant mustard, onion, and a giant slice of pickle. The grilled hot dog was full of flavor with great snap. The steamed bun was a good quality, nicely soft and fluffy. The pickle was a little strange since it took up a lot of real estate, but the added sourness worked well with the dog.

You could order a drink or bag of chips or popcorn along with your dog, but that’s it. And, according to Roadfood, Jimmy’s has been doing it the same way since the ’50s. Cheap and excellent dogs in a plain-looking strip mall storefront.

  1. sounds like a fun place. that pickle doesn’t look right, but i can imagine it tasting good.

  2. These are my favorite!! And I work in Easton, so no road trips required to pick up a couple doggies with everything for lunch!! I then run through McDonald’s drive thru, get a drink and small fry and I’m set! Hmmm…I think I know what I’m having for lunch tomorrow…LOL!!!
